What to do with contradictory social media advice.

Real talk: saving carousels + advice reels DOES NOT constitute a social media strategy. 😬

There is a ton of “advice”, “tips & tricks”, and gurus hanging out on Instagram giving out free info/education. And while we love informative + actionable content as much as the next marketing agency, we want to take a deeper dive into what can often end up being contradictory and counterintuitive advice.

Let's get into the nuance of IG advice content a bit, shall we?

First of all, We share advice. All the time.

Small, bite sized, informative content is a way that we (and every other social/marketing manager out there) provide valuable content to our audience and build trust!

HOWEVER...

The intent with any type of informative/educational content is that it should be taken into consideration ALONG WITH a fully thought out social media strategy/plan.

There's a lot of advice out there. And it's necessary to sort through it and measure it against your larger, overarching strategy.

Contradictory Advice Example 1:

“Posting something is better than not posting at all.” VERSUS “Don’t post just for the sake of posting.”

Contradictory Advice Example 2:

“Post every day so people don’t forget about you.” VERSUS “Don’t post every day – it will annoy your audience.”

Contradictory Advice Example 3":

“Invest in your content/ photos/videos – put your best foot forward.” VERSUS “Do it all yourself – no one cares if it’s perfect.”

Any and all of this advice could and does work for certain businesses. But saving advice carousels and calling it a day will lead to conflicting and confusing information.

You need to dig into your brand, your voice, and your audience to create a strategy that works for your unique business.

Simply saving a carousel 🎠 or trying to imitate a reel 🎞 format is not a strategy. A social media strategy is a plan that's built out with your brand, your voice, your unique point of view, AND your specific audience in mind.

So the next time you find a valuable post while you're scrolling your feed – go ahead and save it. But make sure to consider your STRATEGY first, before you implement.
